Happy Makara Sankranthi
Gangu Academy wishes you a happy Makara Sankranthi, a festival of happiness and harvest. Sankranthi is the harvest festival, during which farmers celebrate the season’s harvest.
Makara Sankranthi is grandly celebrated in Nepal also. People welcome the arrival of Spring Season. When the sun enters the zodiac sign Makara, it is known as Sankramana (Capricorn). The auspicious period of Uttarayana begins on the celebration day. It is traditionally observed in January (14th-15th).
People wear new clothes and special puja will be performed to Sun God.
Distributing ‘Ellu Bella’ and talking sweetly is the tradition of Makara Sankranthi.
‘Kichchu Hayuvudu’ is one of the oldest traditions in the villages of Karnataka.
In the rural areas, people decorate their Bullock Carts and Cows.
Kite Flying is the beauty of this festival and delicious Pongal is special. Sweet rice is also prepared for the festival.
